This is a birthday card for a nephew.
This is different from previous coiling snake mechanisms.
Here there are five discs and they all move the same direction, attached to arms similarly. Each disc has an arm connected to another larger arm that moves when the card is opened and closed.
The prototype shows two of these main arms held up at an angle. This turned out to be too much of a mess and not worth the trouble.
The final card uses one arm, one branch, and it's held out horizontally.
The mechanism relies on paper rivets. Half the bowtie shaped rivet is messed up to fit it through a hole. The messed up portion is flattened and covered with a another paper button so that it doesn't tear or slip out.
